4th of July Kids Parade - It Takes a Village

The 4th of July Kids Bike Parade was a great success! A big shout out to all the volunteers who helped make this possiblet including Tiffany Tyler, Charles Kuffner, Joann and Richard Lammons, Danielle Garcia, Charles Philpott, Beth Sorensen, Michael Graves, and Jack and Annie DeHaven! A Big Thank as well to our Woodland Heights Constable Patrol Deputy Lemons and Deputy Hurt for their help in keeping all the kiddos safe when they took to the street for the bike parade.

The 1930 Model A Ford Coupe

Charles Philpot provided the lead car for the parade and for kiddos and parents to have their photos taken in front of. The 1930 Model A Ford Coupe is a treasure that connects Charles and his family with his dad Tom Philpot's love of restoration of old cars. 

We've featured a story on the car in past newsletter and the story has a link to Tom's original write-up about his restoration journey of a Paddy Wagon he brought back from a "pile of rust. His story originally appeared in the 2015 November/December issue of The Restorer magazine, a Model A Ford Club of America publication. Tom Philpott's restoration journey is an interesting read for car aficionados. We've included links here to the article as well as the magazine and Model A Ford Club of America's site for those interested in pursing this hobby. 

The Parade and All the Fun

We appreciate all the families who came out to the Norhill Esplanade on the 4th to enjoy the watermelon, waterloos, and popsicles our volunteers handed out. There were plenty of beads and stickers as well as beautifully painted faces on the kiddos as well. 

The kids bikes were lined up behind Charles' Model A Ford Coupe with the banner holders behind the coupe followed by parade participants. The kids took off and lots of fun was had by all.

4th of July Kids Bicycle Parade Friday, July 4, 2025

The WHCA 4th of July Kids Bicycle Parade is one week away! This annual event will be held at the Norhill Esplanade. It is open to all kids in the neighborhood. Parents and kids are encouraged to decorate their bicycles in their favorite colors to take part in a parade around the Norhill Esplanade. The WHCA Constable Patrol will be on hand to assist with parade festivities and ensure everyone's safety. 

Please join our community celebration of American Independence at the Norhill Esplanade on July 4th.  Kids can decorate their bikes to join the parade, and families can stay afterward to enjoy the music and refreshments.

There will be free popsicles; watermelon and Waterloos; along with face painting; and some red, white, and blue glow sticks for all the kiddos. We hope to see you there!

WHCA 4th of July Parade Cancelled

The shuffling of the WHCA schedule, moving the Annual General Meeting from March to May and restructuring the board of directors, has had a number of knock-on effects, some unanticipated. In this case, a shortage of time and volunteers has forced the cancellation of the 4th of July Parade.

In the past, organizing the event had been the responsibility the President-Elect, a position that has been eliminated on the new WHCA board of directors. Harry McMahon, President, says that going forward, the event will be organized by the Director of Membership, so we can expect its triumphant return in 2020.

Annual 4th of July Celebration

This 4th of July, join us and your neighbors at the Norhill Esplanade from 9am to 12 noon. Kids are encouraged to bring their decorated ride for the holiday parade! The fun will include the parade, snow cones, games and a bouncy house.

A family neighborhood event open to all, this 4th of July event is sponsored by the Woodland Heights Civic Association.

WHCA 4th of July Festivities

Hey Neighbors!  Please come join our community celebration of American Independence at the Norhill Esplanade on the 4th of July.  Kids can decorate their bikes to join in the parade, and families can stick around afterward to enjoy music, refreshments, bounce houses and more.  Festivities are open to all and begin at 9 AM with the parade, and will continue until noon.  Can't wait to see you there!
