White Oak Drive Construction / by Brian Edmondson

Heads Up: White Oak Drive Construction Started Today

Houston Public Works let us know that a street rehab project for White Oak Drive between Usener Street and Houston Avenue. It was supposed to begin next Thursday. But today we received reports that it has already begun.

The work is scheduled to take about 25 working days (roughly five weeks).

What exactly is a Mill and Overlay?

Basically, instead of completely tearing up and rebuilding the street, heavy machinery grinds off the top inch or two of the old asphalt. Then, they lay down a fresh, new layer on top. It’s a way to fix potholes, seal the road from water damage, and give us a smooth ride without a total road reconstruction.

What to expect during construction

While this is a much faster process than a full rebuild, things will still likely be a bit messy for those five weeks. We can expect rolling lane closures along the route, and some extra noise and dust from the heavy machinery. Please have patience with the crews and remember to drive slowly and safely through the work zone as they work to improve our community.

Drive safe!
