Target Transportation Priorites For Federal Funding
The Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) is currently conducting the North Houston Communities Transportation Priorities Plan (NHCTPP) survey. This is an opportunity for our neighborhood to highlight issues we face and help guide future federal funding to fix major traffic and safety issues right here in Woodland Heights.
The data gathered from this survey will guide which local infrastructure projects get prioritized, funded, and built by the City and County. The more they hear from our neighborhood the more likely we will get prioritized.
Why This Matters for Woodland Heights
With ongoing regional highway construction, freeway spillover and high-speed cut-through traffic are growing challenges for our neighborhood context. We need to speak with a unified voice to ensure our streets remain safe and walkable.
When you fill out the survey, please consider highlighting these key neighborhood priorities to maximize our collective impact:
Target Critical Corridors: In the corridor-specific section (Question 10), make sure to select Studewood Street and 11th Street / Pecore Street, which serve as the central spines of our community.
Demand Traffic Calming: In the ranking sections, prioritize physical infrastructure that forces cars to slow down—such as pedestrian refuge islands, high-visibility crosswalks, and bulb-outs.
Put Pedestrian Safety First: Emphasize that our community's top priority is safe pathways for walking families, children, and cyclists over high-speed vehicular throughput.
