WHCA and Boy Scouts Troop 30 observe this federal holiday by putting up flags at houses in our neighborhood. The Holiday Flag Program marks these occasions by displaying flags at the homes of participating sponsors; the money raised supports Boy Scout Troop 30 and the WHCA Beautification Committee. To take part in the Holiday Flag Program, visit the WHCA's online store to become a sponsor.
About Presidnet’s Day
President’s Day celebrates is a Federal Holiday celebrated on the third Monday of February to honor past and present American presidents. It was created as a federal holiday in 1879 to honor the first U.S. president George Washington (whose actual birthday is February 22). In 1968 Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act to create predictable three-day weekends. Though passed in 1968 it was enacted in 1971. Proposals to officially rename the day as President’s Day failed Congress. The public and retailers popularized the term Presidents’ Day during the 1980s to celebrate both Washington and Lincoln as well as other presidents.
