TxDOT Proposes Project to Replace White Oak Bayou Wetlands with Detention Pond as Part of I-10 Construction

TxDOT has announced a project affecting wetlands and the floodplain. According to TxDOT, "[t]he proposed project would raise the elevation of the existing I-10 main lanes above the floodplain of White Oak Bayou from Heights Blvd. to I-45. The proposed construction area would be approximately 1.8 miles in length. The project also includes the construction of a 21.7-acre detention pond located on the north side of I-10 between Taylor St. and Houston Ave. and would construct a 10-foot shared use path on the north side of I-10 along White Oak Bayou between Studemont St. and I-45."

A presentation on the proposed project will be posted online Tuesday, July 26, 2022. An in-person presentation (in which attendees can ask questions of TxDOT staff and leave written comments) will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2022, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the TxDOT Houston District Office Auditorium, 7600 Washington Avenue, Houston, TX 77007.

All public comments must be received on or before Friday, Aug. 12, 2022, to be a part of the official meeting record.
