Woodland Heights Civic Association

Zion Lutheran Church

February 12, 2008

President Felicia Zbranek called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM. with twenty (20) people in attendance.  The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Board Members Present: R.C. Hayden, Vicky Bettis, Pat Hallmark, Chuck Britton, and Tony Maluski

Centennial Chairs Present: Pat Rutledge and Louise Moss

Guest Speaker was Richard Buxbaum from Baker Katz, Commerical Real Estate.  Richard gave a most informative talk on the complexities of establishing shopping centers for residential areas.  He provided a handout on The Sawyer Heights development and a Demographic fact sheet  covering its three mile radius. Now we have a good idea of what  will be coming to the neighborhood in the way of retail.

Pat Rutledge reported that the Historical Marker has been completely approved, and the tentative site remains at the South East corner of The Travis Elementary Sparks Park.  The State is preparing the wording of the sign, and it will be available for preview soon.  In preparing the history for the marker, enough information was uncovered for Travis Elementary to apply for a Historical Marker .

The Brick Promenade at the Norhill esplanade is entering the final bid stage.  There will be room for 1600 bricks, and 200 have been sold.  The committee is hoping for an early spring completion.

Woodland Park is looking for an architect that is willing to work with the structure that is in place.

Ley Park improvements have been postponed until the storm drain is complete.  Hopefully it will get underway in another 4-6 weeks.  The old sign for Woodland Heights will be placed in Ley Park.

The I45 Coalition reported that they still have their finger on TXDOT.

Officer Reports:

R.C. Hayden reported a TYD balance of $1017.60.

Vicky Bettis reported an income of $26240 for membership, representing 614 households.  This is an 11% increase over 2007.  New flyers for membership will go out the first of March.

Chuck Britton gave a report from PIPS.  HPD is going to clean out underbrush along the bayous so that Freed, Woodland, and Studewood Park will have more visibility and accessibility.  They will also be working with the homeless / finding them more suitable shelter.  Bike patrols will also be more visible in the parks and our neighborhood.

Tony Maluski reported that  DR’s are still quiet. New construction seems to be falling off, but remodeling is picking up.

Infrastructure: The storm project is petty much on schedule.

Water Project: The contractor is very evasive with any details.

Nominating Committee  is still asking for volunteers to fill out applications for all positions
