This faux archeological dig is the centerpiece of Travis
Elementary School's SPARK Park. Completed in 1992, the SPARK School Park
Program transformed Travis' playground into a wonderful neighborhood park,
providing Woodland Heights residents with an additional jogging track, 125
trees, benches, playground equipment, and public art. The park is open to
all on weekends and after school, and has become a neighborhood focal point
where children and their families gather to play, exercise or just visit.
In addition to literally hundreds of volunteers, special recognition goes
out to landscape architect Scott Slaney for designing this beautiful project,
and to sculptor Paul Kittleson, for creating what has become the well known
"Travisaurus Dinosaur."
The park is at 3300 Beauchamp Street, about three blocks southwest of where North Main Street crosses over Interstate 45. |

Hogg Middle School's imposing facade sits at the head of Norhill Street, along the northern fringe of the neighborhood. Further south, Norhill broadens into a wide esplanade fringed with oaks, elms, and pecans. |
